This rotation focuses on providing pre-transplant psychological evaluations and psychotherapy to pre-and post-transplant patients to optimize outcomes. Interns are part of multidisciplinary teams consisting of transplant surgeons, nephrologists, hepatologists, nurse practitioners, nurse coordinators, pharmacists, dietitians, financial coordinators, social workers, and psychologist.

Interventions primarily utilize CBT, ACT, and other evidence-based interventions to address depression, anxiety, substance use, pain management, and adherence issues. The fellow may engage in inpatient evaluation and consultation services for emergent transplant cases. The fellow may also have the opportunity to conduct living kidney donor psychological evaluations.

The fellow will have the opportunity to attend multidisciplinary weekly kidney and liver transplant listing meetings. Optional Opportunities: The fellow will have the opportunity to receive training and supervision in implementation science and implementation facilitation based on the interest of the fellow. There are many options for creating a quality improvement project or implementation of an evidence-based practice within the primary care setting.
